NATURE TRAILS

At Okonjima Nature Reserve we understand the importance of rejuvenating the body and mind in the Namibian wilderness surrounded by nature’s beauty and wildlife. Between your early morning or afternoon game drive, go on a self-guided hike along one of three hiking trails.

Self-guided hiking along our nature trails:

For those who want to spend quality time in nature, our three walking trails vary between four and six kilometres. Walk among wildlife and savour our spectacular landscapes. The trails start a short drive from either of the Okonjima Lodge camps. End your trail with a cold beer or refreshment at one of our lodge restaurants (prior booking essential).

  • The Chacma Trail (4km): This rocky trail winds along the edge of the Omboroko Mountain range.
  • The Giraffe Trail (5k): This route makes for an easy walk through a Terminalia forest, with a lookout point over the 20 000ha Okonjima Nature Reserve.
  • The Dik-Dik Trail (6km): Walk for 3km along the edge of a dry river bed and another 3km along a flat trail road that’s surrounded by savannah.

Encounter all kinds of wildlife and birds whilst immersing yourself in the Okonjima wilderness.

Off the beaten Track:

You can also join a guided, ‘Off-The-Beaten-Track’ walk | drive – a reality very different from yours.

This easy combination of a short walking trail and nature drive in the reserve, is especially loved by our younger guests as a ‘family’ experience due to the interactive and informative demonstrations. This experience, will give you an exciting glimpse of Culture, Flora and Fauna.
