Leopard tracking & Luxury lodge
“We booked 2 of the 8 bungalows through Expert Africa for 2 nights and were delighted to occupy #7 and #8 far away from the reception & dining area. Means more animal visits. Each bungalow has an own separate open air hut with 2 divans to watch the animals roaming the property and feeding the guinea fouls & hornbills with the bird food (provided). This is the place to see a leopard if you do not mind the VHF tracking. Almost guaranteed. We got two leopard sightings and two rhino sightings in the total 3 game drives we booked. Stay 3 nights to increase your chances to see more. And pay a visit to the AfriCat Foundation. Okonjima & AfriCat are one. The one can’t exist without the other. Fantastic luxury lodge with its own style, excellent food, special mention to our guide Opari, and very good service (but not fantastic, we got better at other luxury lodges). We can recommend.”
Beautiful lodge, fabulous Game Drives
“We stayed at Okanjima on our Namibia tour, sadly for only one night. What a wonderful place! We were upgraded to the Bush Suite, a short drive away from the main building and it literally took our breath away! We went on two game drives with Denny who was extremely knowledgeable, the highlight being seeing a leopard and white rhino at extremely close quarters. The staff were lovely and friendly and the food was good. Thank you everyone at Okanjima for such a brilliant start to our tour.”
Lots of Cats!
“We booked an Ultimate Safaris-Windhoek trip, and decided to add on the optional two-night stay at Okonjima Bush Camp, and gosh, are we glad we did! Greeting us as we checked into our beautiful bungalow was a flock of Helmeted Guinea Fowl and a few Spur Fowls, right outside our relaxing room. We were delighted to view leopards, cheetahs, and the brown hyena on game drives, including a leopard cub feeding on an antelope in a tree. Our accommodations were very comfortable, and the food was delicious. The staff were great, too! We wish we could have stayed longer, as Okonjima Bush Camp is a special place. It was definitely well worth it!”
The Best Lodge in Namibia
“Just the best lodge we stayed in during our Namibian holiday. We were upgraded to the Bush camp accommodation and it was just superb. The room was enormous with lovely shower and then a separate sitting area where one could just gaze out to the wildlife in the park. Sadly we were only there for one night so did not really have enough time to appreciate the place fully. We joined a leopard tracking drive in the late afternoon culminating in us finding Vamos, an adult female leopard in the gathering sunset. She was just off to start a hunt and we finally lost her in thick grass. Ended up with a lovely sunset drink on one of the nearby hills. Next morning we went round the cheetah preservation project run by Africat which was slightly depressing as Cheetahs are very difficult to rewild and the project has changed focus to try to educate the farmers to try to get them to accept a cheetah population on their stock ranches. Leopards seem to do fine when relocated but cheetahs do not cope well with translocation. Food was just perfect for all meals. As we did not have to hurry to get back to Windhoek, we checked out at 10am and then stayed to use the pool and sundeck for several hours watching the wildlife come down to drink at the adjacent waterhole. Just wish we had stayed 2 nights rather than just one. Just a superb place to stay”

These intelligent, solitary predators thrive in high concentrations across the diverse terrain of the Okonjima Nature Reserve. Over the course of three decades, the reserve’s predator research programme has yielded profound insights into leopard behavioural patterns, offering an optimistic outlook for their sustainable future in modern Africa.
A minimum two-day stay at Okonjima, provides the prime opportunity to witness wild leopards in their natural habitats, including those collared for research purposes.
Researched leopard are actively tracked, and their collars prove invaluable in locating and safely returning cats that have ventured into surrounding farmland, where they might be perceived as a threat to livestock.
Situated within the rugged commercial farmlands of central Namibia, the expansive Okonjima Nature Reserve stands as a protected expanse that embodies a diverse ecosystem, encompassing both large and small mammals native to Namibia. Additionally, a significant proportion of the country’s endemic bird species finds refuge within these borders.
Visitors can partake in game drives and guided bush walks, offering an intimate and up-close encounter with Namibia’s wildlife, particularly its most guarded species.
Within the Okonjima Nature Reserve, extensive research initiatives are conducted concerning rare and endangered species, both large and small.
